How to Teach a Language?

How to teach language?

I have no idea why I want to post this up on the internet, especially on my blog. Actually, I have not updated my blog for quite some times already and here it is "How to teach language?"

According to what I have learnt in the lectures from this year and last year, there are 4 strands in order for someone to be competent in language that they're learning. There're 4 strands which are;

  • Meaning Focus Input,
    • Meaning focus input in teaching students on some things that they're already familiar with so that it'll be meaningful to them. This does not have to involve heavy demand in language.
    • It should be easy for students to understand the task that requires reading and listening.
  • Meaning Focus Output
    • Output focuses on the productive skills that students have to do in the language learning classroom. This involves speaking and writing.
    • The task that teacher give to students should be meaningful as it should be known by the students or students should already have the prior knowledge of the task. This to make it easy for the students write and speak of something that they already know.
  • Language Focus Learning
    • This involves deliberate learning of language. This focuses on vocabulary and grammar of the target language.
    • It may also be a teaching to learn vocabulary of the target language.
  • Fluency Development
    • This focusing on fluency and it involves in suing simple and easy material with familiar content. In another word, students already know about the topic/material so that they can produce it easily.
    • There should be emphasis on fluency development on each of the 4 skills which are reading, writing, listening and speaking.

So, to teach the target language, use these 4 strands to teach language in a more balance ways.
